How to Avoid an Allergic Reaction to Your Mineral Makeup

logo

Nowadays, it seems it is possible to have a allergic reaction to just about anything. Now there are women who have a allergic reactions to certain types of makeup. Because of the issues of having reactions and increasing sensitivity about what we put on our faces, has many women looking for alternative types of cosmetics that would not provoke an allergic reaction. That is why more and more women are opting for mineral powder makeup. Overall Beauty Minerals But even if mineral makeup is chemical and preservative free, it does not mean that users are safe from any allergic reactions. There are still brands that have ingredients that you might react to. Now it’s true that there are dermatologists who recommend mineral- power based makeup for their patients who have skin problems such as acne, or sensitive skin, rosacea and a few other skin issues. But this is not mean that all their patients would respond well to using mineral-based cosmetics. The reason why dermatologists recommend mineral makeup for those with sensitive skin is that is has zinc oxide which is a natural anti-inflammatory drug. This calms the skin making the skin look refreshed. Titanium dioxide is also present which protects the skin against the dangerous ultraviolet rays. Don’t forget that even though mineral foundation has a natural SPF in it, you still need to apply a moisturizer with SPF15 or higher. mineral makeup With all the benefits and good things you can get from mineral makeup you should still be conscious when picking out the cosmetic brand that you would use. When you are choosing mineral-based makeup whether it be foundation or eye shadows you really need to take a good look at the ingredient list. Remember mineral makeup is going to be made from pure crushed minerals. The “true” mineral makeup will only have 4 or 5 ingredients. There are mineral makeup and there are mineral-based makeup.

Watch for the difference when choosing what you want to use. The more pure it is, the better chances of you not having a allergic reaction to it. By reading the label and getting to know what ingredients cause you to react badly too, it makes it easier to pick out ones that will be good for you. If the label does not have this information, then it’s a brand you do not really want to be using.

Common cases of allergies attributed to mineral makeup is almost always connected to bismuth oxycholoride. Why? Because its not truly a natural ingredient. What this mineral is a product of lead, copper and other metals. It is included often in the makeup because it provides a certain shine.

The downside is that bismuth oxycloride tends to enter the skin pores and block your pores. This is what can cause your skin to react badly. That is why some women who use mineral makeup complain that their face is itchy and becomes blotchy. :(

Carmine, which is also a mineral often, used in mineral based cosmetics, can also cause allergies. If you have sensitive skin and you noticed that carmine is a part of the ingredient list, then it would be better to consider another product. Carmine comes from the shells of cochineal beetles.

The shells are crushed and it becomes a red pigment. This red pigment is used to help provide color in cosmetics. Most reds & pinks have Carmine in them. If you are wearing a blush that has it, and your face starts to break out, this maybe one of the reasons. What can happen is your allergic symptoms can show up as an itchy patch of skin, scaly skin, or sometimes even bumps on the skin. There are studies showing that there are 10 percent of the population shows some type of allergic reactions to cosmetics. ( I have found that I react to carmine in whiteheads, and bumps on my cheeks) :(

Once you have noticed that you have an allergic reaction, stop using all the mineral-based makeup that you have. Then after the allergy has subsided, try using them one by one. Sometimes  what you are reacting to can be caused by the combination of brands.

By doing this, you would identify which brand of mineral makeup is triggering the reaction. If the symptoms would not go away even if you have stopped using the product, then it would be for the best to consult a dermatologist or your doctor.

3 Tips on how to Manage Your Skin Allergies

logo

An effective approach to managing skin allergies has three components. Firstly you must understand the condition, then you must discover if anything is triggering your skin reaction, and third you must look and decide the best ways to care for your skin.
Young Lady has itchy skin, why?

Many people think that allergies only affect the respiratory or digestive systems, but they can also affect your largest organ- your skin.
As with other allergies the immune system overreacts to the presence of certain substances and releases inflammation-producing chemicals. Do some research and talk to your doctor. You can be confident of controlling your skin condition better if you are sure you understand what causes it.

The second component in managing a skin allergy is identifying then eliminating the allergens and irritants that start the itching/scratching cycle. There are over three thousand known triggers for skin allergies. Many are natural, but there are plenty of man-made ones too.

A common man-made trigger is latex, which comes from the sap of the Brazilian rubber tree.
( I personally react to latex) :( The natural proteins and those added in the manufacturing process can trigger an allergic reaction. Most people are aware that this can lead to reactions if you wear latex gloves. However latex is also present in baby pacifiers, balloons, pencil erasers and elastic bands in undergarments. There can also be problems when latex particles become airborne and are inhaled. If you have a latex allergy try to avoid the material and use vinyl or plastic where possible.

Nickel is another trigger. In addition to the obvious nickel-containing metallic objects like coins and jewelry, nickel is also present in everyday objects like scissors, bathroom and kitchen cabinet handles, and zippers. Mascara, eye shadow and eye pencils also contain nickel. Experts estimate that the number of people suffering from a nickel allergy has risen about 40% in the last decade. Much of this is believed to be due to the popularity of body piercing. Some foods also have natural nickel content and people who suffer severe symptoms may need to restrict their diet under medical supervision. At present there is no way to desensitize a person with a nickel allergy. Avoidance is the best strategy.

The third component of effective management is looking after your skin. The easiest thing to do is to keep your fingernails short to reduce the damage caused by scratching.

Managing your skin’s condition means firstly moisturizing and softening the skin to ensure it does not dry out. Your doctor may recommend you use topical corticosteroid preparations to control the inflammation. A good simple product is Gold Bond, it has been around for years

and is well known for its anti-itch properties. its one of the products that anyone can use, and it will help your skin stop itching.

When you take a bath soak in lukewarm water for 20 to 30 minutes. Do not have hot baths or showers, as the heat will increase skin dryness and itching. You can add oatmeal or baking soda to the bath for a soothing effect, though it does not help moisturize the skin.

Use a mild soap or a non-soap cleanser with neutral pH (pH7). If you wish to add bath oils do so after you have been in the water so that it can seal in the moisture. Do not use bubble baths as they can form a barrier that stops the bathwater moisturizing your skin.

After the bath dry yourself by patting your skin with a soft towel. This helps retain moisture. Immediately after drying your skin apply a lotion/ body butter or emollient cream to help your skin retain the moisture.

To look after your skin you will also need to avoid situations where you will experience extreme physical contact, heavy perspiration, or heavy clothing. This may mean avoiding some sports. Swimming is permissible if you rinse the chlorine from your skin as soon as you leave the pool, and use a moisturizer after drying yourself. Make sure you get rid of the chlorine out of your hair, if you are blond you can go green,, :(

Follow these three steps and you will be able to control your skin allergy and minimize its impact on your everyday life.

5 Little Known Facts Regarding Acne Treatments

logo

little known acne secrets, did you know them?Just the mention of the word “acne” fills some people with dread. They envision having to spend long hours caring for their skin by scrubbing it, applying expensive creams to it, and avoiding the foods they most love to eat in order to prevent pimples from breaking out all over their faces.

The great news is that advances are being made in the treatment of acne and experts are discovering new ways to prevent and treat this dreaded skin condition. Some of the old wives’ tales about acne have proven untrue and new information about how to get clear, beautiful skin is being uncovered daily.

Take a look at these 5 little-known facts regarding acne treatment and skin care:

1) To scrub or not?

Although experts once thought that scrubbing was necessary to get clean, pimple-free skin, they now know that scrubbing skin with harsh abrasives only serves to irritate and injure the skin. Because skin is delicate, it can easily become damaged, leaving it unable to act as a shield against harmful bacteria. So scrubbing your skin with or without abrasives must be avoided.

2) Can the sun make my skin beautiful?

Although the sun is capable of stopping bacteria in its tracks, it also harms your skin by drying it out and clogging your pores. Prolonged exposure (more than 15 minutes per day) to sunlight will not help you obtain beautiful skin and should be avoided.

3) Will cold air help clear my skin of acne?

Extremely cold weather damages the skin much the same way as sunlight does by drying it out and clogging the pores. Cold air should be avoided because it will interfere with any progress you are making towards clearing up your acne breakouts. The best temperature for maintaining beautiful, clear skin is between 70 and 80 degrees F.

4) Will swimming harm my skin?

Swimming is an excellent choice, both for your fitness level and your acne-prone skin. Swimming in an ozone-purified indoor swimming pool, with water that is approximately 75 to 85 degrees F, will cool down your irritated skin, reduce stress, and provide great exercise for your entire body.

5) How can I avoid coming into contact with the bacteria that causes acne?

The best way to prevent bacteria-causing acne and have pimple-free skin is to keep everything around you as clean as possible. Bacteria thrive in linens, towels, and washcloths so you must wash them each time you use them. Some natural products that have been proven to cut down on bacteria are vinegar, essential oils, and tea tree oil, all of which can be used to wash your linens and undergarments.

Following these 5 steps will help you effectively fight and control your stubborn acne because you will learn to change your bad habits.

Changing your unhealthy habits will lead to a healthier lifestyle which will, in turn, lead to beautiful, clear, acne-free skin.

Why not go looking like Super girl this year?

Some Halloween makeup ideas are going to take a lot of different colors to make the whole look come together. What’s different about going glam instead of ghoul is the style of course of the makeup and what you do to create it.

After you have pick out the costume you want to wear this year its time to decide how to do your makeup. Don’t bother going out and buying more makeup, you wear makeup everyday anyway right? Why buy makeup that is geared and created just for Halloween? Unless you really dig black nail polish, most colors you will need you already have. This is you we are talking about, use what you know works with you, not some cheap stuff you are not even sure who makes it, just use yours.

Take a good look at your face and decide what is your best feature and as always work with it. For our example, we are going to use farm maid. All of these ideas and tips can be found on a DVD called Halloween Collection One with more information on the how’s to step by step.

For a farm maid, or cowgirl you are going to want simple, but it still needs to be seen. So more makeup than usual will be needed but tasteful done.

Start off with your best feature you are going to want to play up, and we are going to use eyes as our example.

A farm maid is going to have a simple innocent look such as doe eyes. That look is still something you will need to plan out because you want it to last you all night under all types of lighting.

Start off with your makeup primer, or foundation all over your eyelid. This is to keep your makeup in place. Next you will need a all over color and for this look pick something really light such as a cream or white.

Smudge your base color on the lid, blending up and out towards the brow till it pretty much just fades away. A nice gray would work well for this.

Next you need to intensify that color with a darker color by adding it to the crease of the following the natural curve of the socket. Lighten under the brow line and use a round makeup brush to smudge it the two colors together starting from the outside in.

Go easy on your eyeliner and do wear mascara. If you look younger than you are, your eyes will be just right for this look. Just make sure that your  mascara doesn’t get all over under your eyes, it will take away from this look. No smoky eyes here! You need to look young and innocent so stay simple with what you are wearing as well.

Don’t forget your blush so use a pretty baby pink and place it on the apple of your cheeks for your farm maid or cowgirl look.

This is the Halloween you need to set away from looking like you are going to be playing with dead people all night and walk out into the spotlight looking totally hot! Anyone can be a ghoul but only those with the true know-how of how glamorous makeup is done can pull off the more beautiful looks. This year let it be you! Have fun this Halloween, and watch out for all those ghouls!
