Caring for Your Skin by Exfoliation
Author: overallbeauty
When taking care of your skin there are three steps, cleansing, exfoliate, and then moisturize. This article talks about exfoliate and why it is so good for your skin.
There are many ways to help you skin look and feel healthier. One of those ways is to exfoliate. Exfoliation will aide in the removal of dead skin cells and residue that is on the surface of your skin.
There are several ways that you can exfoliate; however, you need to make sure that you are careful in how you handle exfoliation as sometimes it can do more harm than good.
A dull complexion is often caused by dead skin cells, grime and residue that lie on the surface of the skin. Exfoliation can remove these and in turn give you healthier younger glowing looking skin.
When you are exfoliating the skin on your face, you need to exercise extra caution that you do not use products that are harsh. If you have sensitive skin, keep an eye out for any reddening of the skin. If it appears, then you will need to stop immediately. Look for products that offer coca and luffa powders and or jojoba beads. They are less abrasive because they contain smaller, rounder exfoliating pieces. What you might use on your body will be too rough to be using on your face, so be sure that your exfoliation scrub is meant for face or body.
A face cloth is the most suitable to use because it will clean the skin on your face but it is gentle enough to not irritate or cause problems with most skin types. It is not recommended to use exfoliating brushes or loofahs on your face. These are more suitable for the skin on other areas of your body that can withstand harsher abrasions. Dry brushing is also used as a way to exfoliate your body.
There are also natural exfoliants that can be used and are very effective. While they don’t provide the instant effects of some of the chemical exfoliants or brushes, they do an equally good job over an extended period of time. One of the most popular ingredients in the natural products is papaya. There are natural and exotic particles used in scrubs from plant seeds and shells as many companies are going for the greener ingredients in their product lines.
Body scrubs aid in sloughing dead cells and encouraging the growth of healthy, new skin. By helping the body remove the dead cells by using a body scrub, it will naturally reproduce younger ones to reveal glowing, healthy beautiful skin. There are sugar scrubs, salt scrubs as well as a mix of both in a oil base. It’s the oil base that offer skin-conditioning as well as cleansing.
Body scrubs are also used as a pretreatment for tanning or massage to help remove the dead, dry surface skin cells. If you are spending good money on tanning or using self tanners, by exfoliating you are helping your tan last longer. Just note that after tanning do not use a scrub of any kind, as you will just remove the tan faster.

Many people are unaware that the main reason that there are visible signs of aging of their skin because of over-exposure to the sun. While all we all require some sunlight to remain healthy and get vitamin d, over indulging in the sun can lead to premature aging of the skin. They say that if you have big french door windows that you should be wearing sunscreen in your home as well not just when you are outside.
A tan can give the impression that we look healthier, but the opposite is true due to damage that is occurring beneath the skin. There are reasons why tanning is so bad for you, but no one listens. The UV rays from the sun promote the production of melanin—which is why we tan—but this also creates free radicals that destroy lipids and proteins on the outer most layer of skin, the epidermis. Stay away from tanning beds, and even spray on tanning is bad for your skin.
You might not care while in your early 20′s, but when you are in your 30′s and look older than your age, its too late to undo the damage done. Now is the time to start no matter your age to start wearing sunscreen. Check out SolarAegis which is a natural plant/mineral based sunscreen. SolarAegis is a broad spectrum UVA/UVB, SPF 30, all-natural, plant and mineral-based lotion that goes on clear and dry. It is non-greasy and nonstaining. Its special formulation is even great for darker skin tones, including African American and Latino, because it does not leave a white residue like many sun protection lotions. Remember no matter your skin tone, you will burn at some point leaving damage that can not be undone. Why?
Because damage also occurs deeper within the skin as the collagen is destroyed. Collagen is responsible for the elasticity of skin. Obviously with the reduction of the elasticity of the skin we will begin to look older sooner. Anyone like wrinkles? Thought not, then why bring it on sooner than life naturally does?
Other than remaining out of the sun as much as possible, the best course of action is to always make sure you are wearing a sunscreen that is SPF 15 or higher. SolarAegis is 30 SPF which is higher than most sunscreens that are out there and at a price anyone can afford. Still sometimes, sunscreen can irritate sensitive skin, so test it out on a small area before using. Inside the elbow is a good place to test if you have sensitive skin. Apply a small amount and wait 24 hours. No reaction you should have no problems applying this sunscreen anywhere else.
Make sure that all exposed areas of your face are covered including the tips of your ears. Use a lip cream with an SPF as lips tend to burn easy. You should also wear a wide brimmed hat and sunglasses when possible.

New studies show body skin is important to age perception
(NC)—Is the skin on your body playing second fiddle to your facial skin? When it comes to skin care, many women prioritize facial skin care needs in order to achieve a visibly beautiful, younger-looking face. This is only natural — people tend to notice our faces before anything else — but it can result in a marked difference between the perceived age of our face and body.
It’s easy to ignore the lesser exposed areas of our body — you might think that’s what clothing is for, but not every occasion calls for pants and a long-sleeved turtle neck. That’s why it’s important to understand the unique role body skin plays in a woman’s overall perceived age.
According to a recent study conducted at Germany’s University of Goettingen, the appearance of skin below the face plays a big role in a person’s perceived age and attractiveness. In fact, when judged independently from the face, your body skin can actually decrease your perceived age up to 10 years.
“Signs of aging on the body have a bigger impact on age perception than we realize and there are multiple signs that contribute to this impact,” says Rolanda Johnson, senior scientist for Olay. “As we age, changes in the connective tissue of our skin can reduce the skin’s strength and elasticity, especially around our neck, décolletage, hands, elbows and knees. It’s important to take care of the body, as much as the face.”
While some aspects of body skin aging can be chalked up to that pesky reality known as genetics, many age factors are within our control. Here are some tips from Olay to help keep your skin from aging prematurely.
1. Reduce sun exposure – Simply put, damaged skin can often be attributed to frequent exposure to UV rays. Therefore, keep sun exposure to a minimum and use a good quality sunscreen. Wear hats and protective clothing as well.
2. You are what you eat – A nutritious diet and adequate fluids can help keep your skin hydrated and healthy.
3. Indulge in moderation – Too much alcohol and caffeine consumption can lead to dehydration, so consider reducing your intake.
4. Don’t smoke – Among its other heath hazards, smoking is bad for your skin and exposure to cigarette smoke can increase skin wrinkles and dryness
5. Keep stress at bay – It’s not easy to avoid stress, but over time it can cause frown lines and wrinkles. Exercise and/or meditation are proven stress relievers.
6. Beauty rest – It’s easier said than done, but the body requires at least eight hours of sleep.
7. Moisturize – Use a good moisturizing lotion and/or body wash. A moisturizer performs several important functions, including replacing lost water.

Best Dry Skin Remedy – How To Deal With Dry Skin Problems
Author: overallbeauty
When you are dealing with dry skin, finding the right dry skin remedy becomes vitally important. Luckily, there are a wide variety of different home remedies for you to choose from when it comes to remedying dry skin.
The following is a brief selection of some of the options you have available for you in terms of dry skin remedies.
If you want to get the most out of your skin care regimen, then you need to be willing to combine different dry skin remedies until you find the combination that is driving the best possible results.
Determine whether or not hydration issues are playing a role in your dry skin issues. If you are dehydrated, then you are going to have problems relating to dry skin as well. If you are not dehydrated but you are dealing with dry skin, then drinking more water is not likely going to help you.
If you’re not already drinking between 7 and 8 glasses of water a day, now is the time to start.
If your skin is dehydrated, then one of the most natural dry skin remedies is to soak your skin in water. You can soak your skin in lukewarm water for a period of fifteen minutes. Avoid hot water, and stay toward the room-temperature end of things. You should not be doing this every day however as the rule of thumb about soaking your body is to bathe less and use water that is cooler in order to remedy dry skin.
Another home skin care remedy for dry skin is to follow every bath by applying moisturizer in order to lubricate your skin properly. The moisture that you soak into your skin tends to evaporate. If you bathe a lot, then using a moisturizing product is going to be even more important because the moisturizing product is going to help you keep the water in.
The reason for applying a moisturizer product is not simply to put oils back into the skin. Instead, you should understand that dryness on the skin is a function of loss of water rather than necessarily loss of oil. Think about how much easier it is to exfoliate or cut your fingernails or toenails following a bath. This is an excellent example of what happens to your skin when you’ve bathed. When you apply a moisturizer after you take a bath, you can keep the water in your skin rather than letting it evaporate, and this will prevent skin dryness.
Combining these and other dry skin remedies is the best way to overcome your dry skin. Returning your skin to its former health and beauty will take work, but it’ll be worth the effort in the end when your skin is properly healthy and nourished and looking beautiful and looking young. Keep the aforementioned tips in mind and you can and will achieve better, healthier and better nourished skin.
